They go on to say that "it was a very good Christmas for many retailers – but only online. Such is the early verdict on how the shopping season went, according to figures from Experian Hitwise and from early reports from retailers including BrandAlley, which we cover in today’s newsletter. All-time internet sales records appear to have been made on Boxing Day in particular."
"But news from the high street is very different. There, it seems, Christmas trading only got busy late on and from early reports from The Telegraph, citing provisional Experian Footfall figures, it seems that New Year sales have fallen flat. A number of casualties and expected casualties have also been reported, from Hawkins Bazaar to La Senza. We report on this today and will be updating this picture throughout the week as online and multichannel retailers start to update the markets with their figures for the Christmas period."
